Digital Inspection Revolution with Twinsity: Transforming Structural Assessments
In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, inspection methods have undergone significant transformation. This post explores our collaboration with Ramboll Group and a notable project involving the inspection of Cloostornet, a 60-metre observation tower in Denmark.
Collaborating with Ramboll
We are proud to highlight our successful collaboration with Ramboll, an esteemed international engineering, architecture, and management consultancy. Founded in 1945, Ramboll has grown to become a global leader with over 16,500 employees across 300 offices in 35 countries. Their expertise spans diverse sectors including construction, transport and infrastructure, water, environment and health, architecture and landscape architecture, energy, and management consulting.
The Cloostornet Digital Inspection Project
Cloostornet is a 60-meter high observation tower located in Vandvaerkskoven near Frederikshavn, offering breathtaking views of Skagen, Rubjerg Knude, Jyske As, and the islands in the Kattegat. Over time, the tower has been subjected to wear and tear due to the elements, prompting Frederikshavn Municipality to conduct a thorough inspection. Frederikshavn Municipality turned to Twinsity to perform a comprehensive inspection of Cloostornet using drones and 3D modeling technology.
Here’s how Twinsity contributed to the project:
- Visual Inspection of Structural Damages: The images taken by the drone and the resulting 3D model helped identify cracks, corrosion, and other structural damages that were difficult to see from the ground.
- Detailed Analysis of Hard-to-Reach Areas: The drone accessed areas that were challenging or dangerous to reach manually, creating a detailed 3D model for thorough analysis.
- Precise Measurements of Damages: The drone data was used to take precise measurements and record deviations from the original design specifications or previous inspections.
- Appendix for Report: The 3D model served as documentation for insurance purposes and for certifying the tower’s condition.
Future Use of the Twinsity Project
- Communication with Workers: The 3D model acts as a navigation and communication platform for workers to locate, repair, and track damages.
- Updated Tower Models: After each inspection, the 3D model can be updated to reflect the current condition of the tower, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record.
Digital inspections are successfully transforming building assessments
